Cleansing Anyone?
Today there seems to be an obsession with body cleansing. I recently was made aware by one of my patients of a cleansing program that allegedly detoxifies the body using herbal preparations. One aspect of this program was a coffee enema . How any Seventh-day Adventist could embrace such a concept is frightening; especially with all the instructions God has been pleased to give us about the evils of coffee. "Tea has an influence to excite the nerves, and coffee benumbs the brain; both are highly injurious." (4T 364) I guess if it's taken in enema form its O.K.??? (Smile)
There are four ways that waste products are removed from the body. Through the lungs, respiration; the kidneys, urination; the colon, defecation; and the skin, perspiration. Therefore if you drink adequate water, 48-64 oz daily; or take 3 deep breaths 3 times daily; or eat optimal amounts of fiber, avoiding low fiber food; or if you exercise enough to work up a good sweat and take a good bath or shower daily; then your body will be clean. But there is a cleansing which is eternally essential for us all; the cleansing of the soul, which is accomplished only by the blood of Jesus. " But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." (1John 1:7) Let's not worry so much about the physical cleansing to the neglect of spending time with the Great Physician, Jesus Christ who said, "For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds." (Jer. 30:17)
