Antibiotics and Infections
Have you ever taken antibiotics for a cold? If so, you may be doing yourself more harm than good. Antibiotics are very beneficial in treating bacterial infections but because colds are caused by viruses, antibiotics are of no benefit whatsoever! Overuse of antibiotics has been shown to cause the development of resistant bacteria, making them more difficult to treat.
Additionally, in the Archives of Dermatology September 2005 , it was reported patients being treated for acne with long-term antibiotics were 2 times more likely to get an upper respiratory infection in the following year than those not using antibiotics. So if you have a cold, instead of going to the doctor and getting an antibiotic, try Echinacea tea or garlic or chamomile tea. Saline nasal sprays have also been shown to be helpful. Contrast showers stimulate the immune response and help reduce the symptoms and duration of the infection. So try these the next time you have a cold and watch God bless!
