Weight Loss and Colon Cancer

Colon cancer, the number one cause of cancer death in the U.S. , has for years been related to a high fat diet. Recent studies have revealed that obesity is also associated with a higher rate of colon cancer. Will loosing weight influence ones colon cancer risk?

In a study presented by the University of Tokyo at Digestive Disease Week Conference, May 17, 2005 , a study of nearly 9,000 adults revealed that even modest weight loss was beneficial in reducing the risk of colon cancer. Participants were screened by colonoscopy examination for precancerous colon tumors or adenomas. One-year later participants were again evaluated and it was noted that of those who loss 5 pounds or more had reduced their rate of colon cancer by 63%.

If you are overweight and desire to reduce your risk for colon cancer, it would be prudent for you to loose weight. As little as 5 pound could make a great difference. How to loose weight will be your health nugget for next week! God bless!
