Metabolic Syndrome - high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high blood sugars and excessive abdominal fat is a growing problem. It is directly related to diabetes, heart disease and strokes. A study reported in the journal, American Journal of Preventive Medicine; Vol. 27, No. 5 demonstrated the benefits of exercise on the serious condition. 104 people between the ages of 55 to 75 followed a moderate exercise program for six months. 43% had metabolic syndrome. Those who followed the program had a 41% reduction in their risk factors with nine people having eliminated all their risk factors.

Arthritis and Exercise - Another study reveals that exercise helps the knees. Looking at older, overweight and obese adults with degenerative arthritis shows that those who adhered to an exercise regiment had greater improvement n how far they could walk and greater decreases in pain and disability. (Source: Arthritis & Rheumatism; Vol. 126, No. 6)

Fibromyalgia - Another study shows that fibromyalgia was significantly helped by exercise. After a 23-week aerobic program consisting of 20 minutes of walking and 10 minutes of stretching three times a week, there was "significant improvement in physical function and mood and a reduction in the severity of symptoms." This continued even after a years in those who continued the program. (Source: Arthritis & Rheumatism: Vol. 51, No. 6) No wander the prophetess said, "More people die for want of exercise than through overfatigue; very many more rust out than wear out."
