Alzheimer's Disease
Many Americans are concerned about Alzheimer's disease with over 4.5 million in the U.S being affected. Several studies over the past year demonstrate that age does not cause decrease brain functions ( Neurology, March 2005 ), and that there are things that can be done to help to prevent this devastating problem.
Controlling your blood pressure, especially the systolic pressure, improves blood flow to the brain thus reducing the chances of getting Alzheimer's. ( Hypertension, February 2005 ) It is therefore important to take your blood pressure medications if your blood pressure is elevated.
Foods with high levels of an anti-oxidant called quercetin helps to prevent Alzheimer's. Fresh apples are very high in this substance as are other fruits and vegetables. ( Cornell University )
Stress and worry increases the risk for Alzheimer's as reported in the journal Neurology January 2005 . It is therefore imperative to manage stress successfully, remembering 1 Peter 5:7, " Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." And if He cares for you, why should we worry? We are, "too blessed to be stressed!"
